VIETNAM HIGHLIGHTS

HA NOI

HANOI: Around Hanoi you can find a variety of temples containing a great mix of religions. Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism are all blended together, with a harmonious – if confusing! – result. Make sure you check out the temple of Literature and the Ngoc Son Temple on the island in the centre of Hoan Kiem lake. - Moontorch, Traveller
Halong Bay

HALONG BAY: If you can get out of bed after being lulled to sleep by the swaying boat, your morning on Halong Bay will truly be one for the books. The mountains meet the see in this archipelago, huge peaks rising all around you as you sail by. Every view is picture worthy, especially in the morning light. If you like rice for breakfast, you’re really in luck. - Lucy Anne Kegan, USA
Hill Tribes

HILL TRIBES: Tote a questionably heavy bag of marbles into the mountains. Watch the hill-tribe children’s faces light up as you play. At five, they work full time, slinging a younger sibling on their back while selling handicrafts to tourist. - Heather Narynsky, Canada
Hoian

HOIAN: Tile-roofed wooden houses, treets lit with hanging red lanterns, and Chinese temples give small, riverside Hoi An great charm. It has few cars but a busy river life, and is good for tailor made clothers and original art. – Onesmallbag, Traveller
Ho Chi Minh highway

HO CHI MINH TRAIL: Ride the Ho Chi Minh trail on two wheels and get off Vietnam’s well-worn tourist trail. Rent a motorcycle and hire a Easy rider guide in eigher Hoi An or Dalat for the 800km, for day trip through the mountains and villages of the striking central highlands. – Cheryn Flanagan, USA
Dalat

DALAT: Dalat is a beautiful city set in the mountains, known for its flowers and strawberries. The weather is cooler than throughout the rest of the country and provide a nice break from the heat on the coast. You can travel to Dalat very easily from the surrounding cities. Go to relax, enjoy food and see the city’s agriculture and beauty. - Elizabeth Trex, USA
Sand Dunes of Mui Ne

SAND DUNES OF MUI NE: If you’re after a break from the ever-present fish sauce smell of Mui Ne, then charter yourself a motor-bike tour and head for the red-and white sand dunes. You’ll especially appreciate the sight if it’s overcast, as the color of the dunes can change dramatically from one second to the next. And if you feel like a spot of surfing – sand dune – style – then there’s an abundance of local kids on hand to lend you a plastic board. Rof a small fee, of course. – Naomi Jennings, LonelyPlanet Staff
Mekong Delta

MEKONG DELTA: We had a fantastic day in Mekong Delta, cruising down the narrow canals of the Co Chien river in a wooden canoe, sucking on freshly cut sugar cane and visiting the beautiful little islands of Vinh Long
